EASTPOINTE, Mich. (WXYZ) — A local college student is grateful to be alive after she was carjacked Tuesday night in Eastpointe. It happened around 10:20 pm near 8 Mile and Gratiot in front of her grandmother’s house.

The 20-year-old Wayne State student, who asked that we not say her name or show her face, says that she was just about to get out of the car when she heard a tapping on her window.

“When I looked up at him, he told me to get out. When I opened the door, I put my hands up and and stuff I was like don't shoot me. He was like just give me your keys, I'm not going to shoot you,” she said.

She did as he said and handed over the keys. He took off and she called 911.

Eastpointe police say they canvassed the neighborhood on Wednesday looking for witnesses and any possible surveillance video. They are asking for the public’s help in trying to track down the 2012 gold Chevy Cruze. The license plate number is DTU 0302.

The victim says there were many valuables in her car like her computer, Apple Watch and her identification. However, she knows she has the most valuable things - her life.

“I was just so terrified. I've never been in a situation like that,” she said.

Eastpointe police released a picture of a car that *looks* like the one that was stolen. If you have any information on where it is or who took it please call Eastpointe police right away at 586-445-5100.
