MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — When an Ajax Asphalt semi blew the left front tire and caused a chain reaction crash yesterday in Macomb Township, Dean Watson was driving a van right in the path.
His mother Barb says, “He saw the truck coming right at him. He pulled over as far as he could to the shoulder of the road.”
Dean watched the semi hit a pickup truck in front of him and his mother continues, “He said he grabbed the steering wheel closed his eyes and said, I’m dead.”
Charles Fleteren owns the home that was destroyed on the corner of 26 Mile and Omo Roads and he says still can’t find out how much he’s lost in the debris .
“The important stuff upstairs is basically gone," he says. "I haven’t found my kitchen yet although I think my refrigerator is down here in the corner.”
He’s staying in a Warren motel for now and he’s been told not to do a deep dive into the damage because it’s not stable.
He says he talked with his insurance company today and they told him, “They said everything would be covered by Ajax. They blew a tire. There was no alcohol.”
The Macomb County Sheriff says a blown tire was the cause and no charges will be issued. Nobody was seriously injured.
