A man convicted of torturing his pet dog will spend his next 15 weekends in jail.
The judge sentenced John Sporer of Eastpointe to 30 days in jail for beating and torturing Meatball, his 3-year-old mastiff.
Sporer will serve his time on weekends at the Macomb County Jail. He was also put on probation for 18 months.
The attack on Meatball was caught on camera by a neighbor -- who shared the video with police.
A Macomb County jury found Sporer guilty of animal torture -- a 4-year felony -- and misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty and possession of an unlicensed dog.
Animal rights activists say they're pleased with the outcome.
Meatball is now in the care of the owner of a dog kennel in Clinton Township and is said to be doing very well.
