A Warren family believes someone stole their beloved dog from their fenced backyard to make money by selling him on Facebook and Craigslist.

"It's heartbreaking," says Maria Palonis whose special needs daughter is desperately missing their 10-month-old dog named "Brutus."

Brutus, a friendly black and white German Shepherd/pit bull mix, went missing from his backyard in late May while Palonis was in the shower.

His family put up fliers and posted on Facebook in hopes of finding Brutus. So many people joined in the search for Brutus and they discovered a man trying to sell him last week on Facebook.

They knew from the pictures that it was their Brutus, and Palonis says the man gave conflicting stories about where and when he got the dog. Palonis says when they asked the man to return Brutus, he stopped communicating and deleted his posts.

Palonis filed a report with Warren Police and she's hoping whoever has Brutus will do the right thing and give him back to them.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact the Warren Police Department.
