Wayne State University Police are searching for the man who assaulted and tried to rob a 22-year-old woman.

They've sent out notice to students, staff, and people who live near campus.

Wayne State University Police say it happened near campus on West Canfield just east of Cass Avenue on Wednesday around 10 p.m.

As the 22-year-old who is not a student walked with her father and her father’s friend - a man suddenly approached her.  He rushed her, demanding money, threw her to the ground  and punched her.  Her dad pushed him. They struggled. Then the man took off.

Police say while he could have grabbed a purse, wallet, or other valuables as they struggled, he didn’t.

The 22-year-old female victim suffered a cut to her finger from being pushed down to the ground.

Police say they just want students and staff aware it happened. If something seems strange, unusual or suspicious, you are asked to contact the WSU Police immediately at 313-577-2222. Officers will be dispatched right away to check out the activity.
