Matthew Lander, 34, is charged with two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder after Port Huron Police say he caused a deadly injury to his own mother and then went after her boyfriend with a machete.

Kimberly Lander, 57, was found not breathing and with an injury to her face.

Police say Charles Duncan woke up early Thursday morning to Matthew Lander standing over him waving a machete. The two men struggled and Duncan was able to push Lander out of the home.

Duncan then went to check on his girlfriend, but found her injured and unresponsive.

On Friday, police said Kimberly Lander is brain dead and on life support, awaiting organ donation.

After she's declared dead and the completion of an autopsy, charges against Matthew Lander are expected to be amended to include murder.
