About 2 1/2 years ago, John Oberg found out his mom, Karen, had cancer. He took a leave from his job to spend quality time with her.

“I like to think that life is about quality not quantity and although we only had 28 years together, I feel like it was more than an average lifetime. Soccer mom, red wings mom, tigers mom, the best mom,” says John.

Karen passed away in November 2015 and before she died she made John promise to do two things: live his life and make sure her four cats have loving homes. So that's what John is doing. He wants to make sure Tibet, Tokyo, Boo and Neo find a new family.

“She definitely put her heart and soul into them and they brought her a lot of joy," adds John.

John can no longer care for the pets because he's hitting the road with a nonprofit, The Humane League, to fight for animal rights. His mom knew this before she passed away.
