The University of Michigan made a major announcement Thursday regarding free tuition fro qualifying students. On Friday, the excitement over the news continued, but many people still had questions about the "Go Blue Guarantee."

To qualify, you must first get accepted through the university admissions process. According to CollegeSimply.com, only 26 percent of applicants were admitted to U-M last year.

You also must be a full-time student studying to get your first degree at the Ann Arbor campus. You don't have to apply for the grant, but you must submit a FAFSA each year.

The Go Blue Guarantee is only for in-state students, and you cannot move out of your parents' home and claim to be an independent in order to qualify for the low-income status.

We're told there is no limit to the number of students who can receive this grant. There is also no age restriction.

The university is opening their doors to students who once thought walking through the campus was out of reach. The school estimates about half of all Michigan families meet this low-income bracket.

The program will launch Jan. 1, 2018 and is only meant for undergraduates studying to get their first degree at the Ann Arbor campus.
