UTICA, Mich. (WXYZ) -- When the United Shore Professional Baseball League was announced, of course it came with the hopes of success.

One year into existence, they can firmly say those hopes have been realized.

The league is adding a new team to the fold, the Westside Wholly Mammoths, to join the Eastside Diamond Hoppers, Utica Unicorns and Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers, for another exciting season at Jimmy Johns Field in Utica.

While those teams may never make the SportsCenter Top Ten, some of their players might, as the league sent 13 players to major league affiliates, after getting their professional start right here in Michigan.

"The idea of the finishing school sounds great, but you have to prove it. That's what we did last year, we can actually develop these guys and get them to the next level," director of baseball operations Justin Orenduff said.

The league begins play on Thursday, May 11th, and hosts games at Jimmy Johns Field each weekend throughout the summer.
