A former Detroit Fire Department EMT was sentenced after being accused of delaying responding to a call to help an infant who later died in May 2015.
Ann Marie Thomas, 45, was sentenced to six months in jail and two years probation. If she violates her probation, she must spend another 3 months in jail.
The department said Thomas delayed her response time and even stopped her vehicle and parked less than a mile away from the location.
Another EMT unit had to be sent to the location and the 8-month-old baby died later that day, according to a statement from the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
She was found guilty of willful neglect of duty.
The infant's mother, Janee Wright-Trussell, was charged with murdering her. She pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and first-degree child abuse. She was sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
