To prevent pill abuse and theft, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is partnering with local law enforcement to offer another prescription drug drop-off day.
Take-Back Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at designated locations around metro Detroit.
It's the 15th Take-Back event in seven years.
The public is encouraged to drop-off expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. The DEA cannot accept liquids, needles or sharps – only pills or patches.
According to a release, the event is in effort to address a vital public health and safety issue by collecting "medicines that languish in home cabinets" and are "highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse."
The service is free and anonymous.
National drug Take-Back Day is scheduled for October 28. For more information, and to locate a Take-Back location near you, visit www.DEATakeBack.com.
