The Grosse Ile community really wants to win tonight’s mega millions, in fact the community came together and pitched in some cash to better their chances of winning and maybe walking away millionaires.
"You really want to win," said Grosse Ile resident Robert Sawyer who organized the pool. "Oh, gosh, yes – absolutely, absolutely. I mean, yeah of course."
Sawyer says he really wants to win the Mega Millions drawing, and so do the 10,000 plus residents who live on the island.
"How cool would it be for all of us in it together to win it," Sawyer said.
So he organized a night where residents of Grosse Ile could pitch in some money, 174 folks in fact, and improve their odds at striking it rich.
"Of course we would do things to fix up the island things that are in disrepair that need to be done," Sawyer said. "Absolutely we’d do that."
The Mega Millions jackpot is in uncharted territory. It's the largest jackpot in the U.S and worldwide. Here in Michigan, 470,000 tickets were sold every hour.
