The body of a man who had been missing since Tuesday was found in his home in Detroit that burned down, officials say.
Kevin McGriff, 26, was last seen at his residence in the 14000 block of Terry. His father left the location at 5:30 a.m. and when he returned at 6:13 p.m., he discovered there had been a house fire and he could not locate his son.
Family members discovered his body inside the home on Saturday afternoon.
"This already has been a terrible tragedy for this family and these events surely compound their pain," Detroit Fire Commissioner Eric Jones said. "Firefighters are required to conduct a full and complete search of every fire scene for any possible victims."
"We have a full investigation underway to determine what went wrong to prevent this from happening again. My team is reaching out to Mr. McGriff’s family to apologize to them personally."
