ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WXYZ) — A St. Clair Shores man was taken to the hospital after being carjacked and severely beaten in Roseville. It all happened around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday near Del Taco on Gratiot near 13 Mile Road.
"It made me sick, that’s the best way I can say it. It made me sick,” said attorney James Galen.
Galen woke up to a call from his friend and client Derek Hill, alerting him his van had been stolen and his face severely beaten.
“I got a concussion, I've got six stitches on my forehead," Hill said.
Hill says he was driving down Gratiot to pick up food when he saw a woman with what appeared to be a broken-down car. He says smoke was coming from under the hood. He stopped to see if she needed help and was attacked by two men who jumped him. The woman got into the driver's seat and took off with his car.
“As he spoke to an individual through the passenger window, someone (crept) up to the driver's side, snatched the door open, blasted him in the face, dragged him to the ground, kicked him in the face,” Galen explained.
Hill says the van is used to help others through Last Supper Mobile Ministry, something he started and runs himself. At the time of the carjacking, he says the car was filled with groceries and nearly $200 in cash.
“He gives of himself to people who are less fortunate and he does this without pay or with any expectation of reward," Galen said of Hill. "He does this because this is what he does.”
His van is a gold 2006 Chrysler Town and Country with a decal for his ministry on the back window. Hill says having the van returned is all he wants.
“To have them take this van has really pierced my heart,” Hill said. "This van means the world to this ministry, so please, please return this van.”
If you see this van or know anything about this carjacking, you’re asked to contact the Roseville Police Department.
