A Redford mother is furious after learning her child was left alone at a library by his preschool teacher.

“It’s already hard enough as a mother, as a working mom, to trust people to take care of your kid when you're at work,” said Carla Butler.

Butler says he son Vernon was taken by Rainbow Village Preschool next-door to the Redford Public Library on a class trip. The 5-year-old boy got distracted playing on a computer, and the class took off without him, leaving him behind.

“I was absolutely terrifying anything could happen. I mean if you leave your child anywhere, anything could happen. But in a public place, no one needs an ID, or a child or anything to get into the library,” said Butler.

Butler also said the school has done very little to communicate with her the details of the incident.

”It was kind of just like, 'well I’m sorry but there’s nothing I can really do about it',” said Butler.

Rainbow Village Preschool sent 7 Action News the following statement:

Rainbow Village has been a childcare provider at this facility for the last 25 years.  We have had more than 1,000 children and their families participate in programming.  Last Monday, we visited the Redford Library as we often do which is approximately 100 feet from where we’re located.  After returning from our field trip and getting the children settled with bathroom facilities and the like, the library contacted us before we had the opportunity to walk back and pick up the youngster.  And as the library said, and we concur, was within 15 minutes of our return.

The school says they are working with Child Protective Services as they start an investigation.
