Sentimental posts filled the Facebook message wall of the group "Friends of Tom's Tavern (Detroit)" as supporters of one of the oldest bars in Detroit honored the life of owner, Ron Gurdjian.
Gurdjian died at the age of 78 on Sunday, June 17.
Photos of Gurdjian, along with emotional notes reminiscing on his impact on the community were posted by dozens of longtime customers in the public Facebook group that is joined by over 12,000 people.
The open Facebook groups states that Tom's Tavern is "the greatest bar in metropolitan Detroit... starting with the people, the frequent live music and the ambience!"
Tom's Tavern opened in the 1920s on west 7 Mile Road.
Some customers are planning to gather outside of the tavern Monday evening to pay tribute to Gurdjian, according to a Facebook post.
