A tree fell on a postal worker delivering the mail in South Lyon Friday.
Fire department officials said a very large old tree fell on him while he was walking delivering mail around 11:30 a.m.
Witnesses at a nearby restaurant heard the tree fall and found the mailman trapped underneath.
“As we were looking we heard a voice," Sean Phillips said. "So we looked a little closer and we thought we heard the mailman crying for help. He said, 'Please help. Please someone.' He said a couple of cars had driven up even and looked at the damage and drove off because no one could see where he was laying."
Phillips called 9-1-1. When emergency crews got there they used a chainsaw to get him out from under the tree. Crews have cleared that tree from the property.
Officials say he is in stable condition.
Communication officials with the USPS said in a statement, "The Postal Service is always concerned about the safety and well-being of our employees as they are out serving the community. Though we cannot report personal health information, the letter carrier in South Lyon is expected to recover."
The incident occurred at North Wells and Detroit streets east of Pontiac Trail.
