DETROIT (WXYZ) — While it may be the heart of winter in metro Detroit, we're looking ahead to warmer times and to the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix.

Grand Prix officials say they are still looking for volunteers for the weekend, with the hopes of having 1,100 in all helping out. Almost 500 members have already registered.

There are a ton of opportunities for volunteers, including ticket scanners and ushers, to providing transportation services and more during the race weekend, which happens from May 29-31.

“We always hear from our fans, our partners and even the race competitors just how special our volunteers are at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear and they are so right. We simply could not host this event without our amazing members of the Detroit Grand Prix Association. They are so passionate about the Grand Prix, the city of Detroit and Belle Isle Park,” said Bud Denker, Chairman of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. “Our volunteers make sure that everyone who attends the Grand Prix on Belle Isle has a wonderful experience. We encourage anyone that’s looking to volunteer and help make a difference in our community to come join our DGPA team.”

Currently, they need volunteers for circuit marshals, customer relations, ticket scanners, information services, transportation and more.

It costs $20 a year to join the Detroit Grand Prix Association but its available at a discounted rate of $15 through Jan. 31. It helps cover volunteer benefits including a member patch, lapel pin, access to pre and post-race parties, plus a race weekend credential, free off-island parking, shuttle, official uniform shirts and official hats.
