Bill Petrere has marshaled the 10th hole for three years and it has become quite a popular pit stop for others on the way out to the course.
“The fun is watching the ladies, I coached female hockey for 35 years, I love watching the women play and they’re just a lot of fun, they’re very enjoyable people,” Petrere said.
Bill’s class and personality are not alone at Travis Pointe this weekend though, as there are plenty of other veterans being honored in other ways, some, are still serving.
The ninth hole features an American flag pin, tended by an active member of the military. A gesture that doesn’t go unnoticed.
“This is a big weekend for everyone, it’s for those that lost their lives, paid the ultimate price so we pay respects. It’s just good to catch up with a lot of vets and just be able to meet and interact with people,” Navy seaman Justin Hanrahan added.
“It’s really cool, the vets that have come by here I chit chat with, we do the ‘welcome home brother’ shake hands, and it’s just fantastic, this is really great they really enjoyed it,” Petrere said.
There’s also a free military pavilion where veterans and their families can take in the tournament up close, in a special area for some of the most special patrons.
