When it comes to motor vehicles, the 1950’s and 60’s hold a special place in American history.  It was the era where Motor City steel ruled the roads.  Auto manufacturing became the largest industry in the U.S.   And one out of every 6 workers were employed by an auto-related business.   Competitively, Ford, GM, Chrysler and American Motors helped to propel America to become an economic superpower.

The annual Woodward Dream Cruise is a positive reminder of Detroit and our nation’s rich tradition of innovation and technology.   No wonder, what began 22 years ago as a small fundraiser for a Ferndale soccer field, has become the world’s largest 1-day automotive event.  This year promises to be even bigger and better!

In addition to Channel 7’s local 2-hour prime-time broadcast, we will produce a 1-hour syndicated special.  It will air in over 85-percent of the United States and showcase Detroit’s cruise and regional revitalization.  Practically everyone will have an opportunity to see what attracts nearly 2 million people and more than 40-thousand classic, custom and muscle cars from the past to Woodward Avenue.

Next week’s Dream Cruise is more than just a big financial boost to our local economy.  It represents our pride and the Midwest spirit that has made us the “Auto Capital of the World” and America’s latest Comeback City!

We are proud to be the official broadcast partner for the Cruise!  We encourage you to gather your family and friends, come out to reminisce and enjoy the eye-popping display of cars and trucks.  It is the best free summer event in Southeast Michigan.

The 2016 Woodward Dream Cruise: Make it a day to just roam with the chrome!

I’m Mike Murri, Vice President & General Manager
