The family of a Detroit police officer killed in the line of duty is filing a lawsuit seeking millions of dollars from the man who allegedly took his life.

Officer Myron Jarrett was a loving husband and a father of four children.

His family has now hired expert Attorney Michael Morse to represent them in the civil matter.

The civil lawsuit filed today, will take into account the findings of a criminal investigation as well as prosecution of the suspect.

Steven Patrick Guzina allegedly was behind the hit-and-run that claimed the officer's life.

Back on October 28th, at Puritan and Monica streets near Livernois, the officer was struck and killed by a moving van.

Prosecutors have filed multiple charges against Guzina, who remains behind bars.

"They have lost their father to someone who was reckless and under the influence behind the wheel" says Morse. He adds, "We have to protect this family."
