The "Funky Ferndale Art Fair" opens this weekend, with lots of fun things for families. Click on the video link for JoAnne Purtan's interview on 7 Action News at Noon. 120 artists will be in town from 8 different states.
What makes for funky art? "We look for art that demands a reaction. Perhaps it's humorous, sometimes dark. It's often more complex than traditional work," says the event director Mark Loeb.
"When we first started this show, people felt that fine art had to fit a tight niche. It should resemble the European Masters. Now no one questions it when we say Funky Fine Art," says Loeb.
"We wanted a show that reflected the diversity and inclusivity of Ferndale and knew that a "traditional" art fair would not work."
