General Motors is telling the state of Michigan that it will eliminate the second shift at the Detroit Hamtramck Assembly Plant.
The move will result in the permanent loss of 1270 jobs at the facility.
The second shift elimination is expected to begin March 6 and end March 19. That means the layoffs are expected to begin the 6th.
The filing comes in the wake of reports that GM will be cutting production at five facilities across the country early in 2017.
