UPDATE: Make-A-Wish Michigan's 19th annual Walk for Wishes raised over $504,000 and it's the first time they have cracked the half a million dollar mark!
Over 6,500 people gathered at the Detroit Zoo on Saturday for the event.
Close to 5,000 people have pre-registered to walk in Make-A-Wish Michigan’s annual Walk for Wishes. It’s not too late join the fun!
The funds raised go toward granting wishes to children fighting life-threatening illnesses.
WISH KID VISITS BROADCAST HOUSE
Make-A-Wish Michigan has granted more than 8,500 wishes to eligible Michigan children over the years.
One of those wishes went to Wish Kid Bryan Lasky of Livonia. The 14-year-old wanted to swim with dolphins in Florida.
He wants to be a marine biologist when he grows up. The special trip was granted not too long ago.
But his interest in science also draws him to meteorology.
So, Make-A-Wish Michigan and WXYZ invited him to drop by the Channel 7 studios the day before the Walk for Wishes to learn what the job is all about.
The staff from WXYZ and WMYD lined the halls with applause and high-fives to give him a warm welcome.
Chief Meteorologist Dave Rexroth, Meteorologist Keenan Smith, and Meteorologist Hally Vogel showed him the ropes in the 7 First Alert Weather Center.
The tour included how the team comes up with the forecast each day, how they create their graphics, and how they deliver the information in front of the “green screen."
His Mom Andrea also enjoyed the behind-the-scenes experience.
