Nearly 50 Utica Community Schools teachers are out of work due to budget cuts.
Layoffs of 47 K-12 teachers were announced at a school board meeting Monday.
The district says the layoffs are due to a $750,000 reduction in federal Title 1 funding for the next school year.
Utica Community Schools Spokesman Tim McAvoy said the district is also bracing for a drop in enrollment.
UCS employs about 1,400 teachers and is the largest district in Macomb County, and the second largest in the state.
