5 students arrested in brawl at Pontiac High School

(WXYZ) — Five students were arrested in a brawl at Pontiac High School, according to the school district.

Officials with the Oakland County Sheriff's Department says a School Resource Officer radioed for help with a large fight at 11:27 a.m. Numerous deputies were dispatched to the scene, including the Air 1 helicopter unit.

Polcie say around 100 students were "congregating" in the halls near the rear of the building at the time.

Deputies restored order and the school was placed on lockdown.

The five students who were detained at two adults and three juveniles. The two adults, a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old, were taken to the jail on charges of Assault and Battery. One of the Juveniles, a 16-year-old, was taken to Children's Village on a charge of Disorderly conduct.

The two other students, a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old, were released to their parents pending further action.

Police say school security the fight is part of a long-running dispute between two groups of students. A school assembly was held to address the students about "conducting themselves in a manner that reflects highly upon them and the community."

The district says no weapons were involved.
