(WXYZ) — Detroit police say a 5-year-old child was shot by another child at a home on the city's west side. Police say the child has died.
According to police, it happened near the intersection of LaSalle and Sturtevant in the Dexter-Linwood neighborhood.
We're told an 18-month-old accidentally shot the 5-year-old while playing with the gun. Officers who responded to the scene gave medical assistance until EMS arrived.
The 5-year-old was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the father is being detained for questioning. The shooting is still under investigation.
