Amazon has rolled out a new app aimed at making reading more enjoyable for kids with a storytelling strategy that is definitely a nod to the digital age.
Amazon Rapids is filled with hundreds of short stories, and they are all told by characters chatting with one another via text. Children basically read the stories as they unfold through a series of messages.
Amazon says in a news release that the app is geared toward readers ages 7 to 12 with story topics like humor, sports and science fiction.
There's a number of features to help kids learn, according to the company. Kids can have the story read aloud and a built-in glossary lets them look up words to establish a broader vocabulary base.
The app will be a subscription service and cost $2.99 a month.
Amazon Rapids is available on iOS, Android and for Amazon Fire. There's a sample story once you download the app, so you can see if kids might take to it before you subscribe.
