Person of interest in custody after 3-year-old dies in accidental shooting

Police have taken a person of interest into custody in Detroit in connection with this case. 

He was taken into custody at a gas station at Plymouth and Greenfield.

No other details are being released at this time.

A 3-year-old child has died after a shooting in Clinton Township.

It happened at an apartment complex on Lotus street.

Police are investigating how it happened.  

Witnesses tell police and 7 Action News a group of children found a gun on the ground. They thought it was a toy.  

They were passing it around for a short time. Parents were only a short distance away, but didn’t see the children pick up a gun. 

They heard a gun shot. 

Three-year-old Cameron Dillard was shot in the abdomen. He died at the hospital.

Police say they have not yet found the gun. 

Some witnesses say the gun’s owner picked it up and took off from the scene. Police are working to find out who he is.
