(WXYZ) — Beaumont Health is looking to bring on-board a few hundred salaried General Motors Co. workers that were laid off earlier this month.

The hospital reportedly has 500 non-clinical job openings available and has had discussions with GM to inform the former employees about the openings.

"There is absolutely a war on talent right now, combined with an unemployment rate under 4 percent in Michigan, that creates problems," Beaumont's chief of human resources Aaron Gillingham told The Detroit News. "This is an opportunity for us to go out into the market and get good talent much more quickly."

GM responded to Beaumont's initiative with this statement:

"We’re pleased there are companies eager to begin the interview process and fill openings."

Beaumont currently employs 38,000 people and is one of the largest health systems in the state.
