LIVONIA, Mich. (WXYZ) — Baristas from Biggby Coffee are hoping to win money and bragging rights for the best latte art. Not only does it have to look good, it has to taste good too.
Biggby’s annual company meeting is being held this week in Novi. One of the many things they cover with baristas is how to improve customer service, which can include latte art!
“Makes me really happy when you pass out a drink and a customer stops and ‘oh my gosh it’s a heart.’ Or they take a picture,” said Barista Jenni Miller.
Miller and Paige Cook are just two of the baristas competing for best Biggby latte artist Wednesday.
We met with them at the Biggy location on Ann Arbor Road in Livonia.
“I think that the competition is all kinds of inspiring on a new level," Cook said. "Everybody loves prizes.”
The winner gets $3,000, while second and third place also win cash prizes. The judges include a world renowned latte artist and last year’s winner.
“I’m really excited," Cook said. "I know it’s going to be hype, we are on stage and we have a crowd and everyone is going to be pumping me up.”
There will be basic designs to something a little harder, like 3-D latte art.
Cook and Miller have spent the past year practicing latte art and they’re ready to show it off.
“That’s everything," Cook added. "It makes me feel good. It makes you feel good. It’s a whole different kind of smile. Not only did I nail your drink, but there is a heart on top.”
You can watch the competition on their Facebook page here.
