Police say a body has been discovered inside a home where crews were called to battle a fire that started about an hour ago on Detroit's east side.

Investigators are trying to determine how long the body has been inside the home.
Detroit police say they were called to the scene by the fire department who discovered a dead body inside a house on the 19-thousand block of Gruebner.

That's near 7 mile and Van Dyke.

Neighbors tell 7 Action News the home was vacant.

Police and the mayor’s office say tearing down these blighted homes is an important tool for preventing crimes like this from happening. Right now, the identity of the body inside is not known.
