GROSSE ILE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — One boater happened upon a shocking discovery in the early hours of Saturday morning in Grosse Ile Township.
The body of a middle-aged white man dressed in black sweatpants, a black zip-up jacket and white tennis shoes was floating along the Detroit River.
Grosse Ile police confirmed a body was recovered on the Detroit River around 9 a.m. Saturday, just north of Stony Island.
Officers say the man was about 5-feet 8-inches, 160 pounds with brown hair.
Police would not confirm if they suspect foul play at this time, saying the Medical Examiner is expected to start working the case around noon.
It is unknown how long the body was floating on the river before police recovered it, officers say. A boater had passed by, saw the body and called the police.
