MARQUETTE, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say searchers have found the body of a Northern Michigan University student who went missing on a hike to photograph waterfalls in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

The search for 25-year-old Guiancarlo Estupigan began Friday in Marquette County's Ishpeming Township and continued over the weekend. Sheriff Greg Zyburt says Estupigan was found dead Sunday afternoon. WLUC-TV reports his body was found about 300 feet (91 meters) from a roadway.

Estupigan's roommate told the sheriff's office that he left Thursday afternoon amid snowy weather for a hike near the Yellow Dog River to take photographs of waterfalls.

When Estupigan failed to return, the roommate went searching and found Estupigan's vehicle in the Yellow Dog parking lot. The roommate reported him missing Friday afternoon.

Estupigan was a sophomore studying fish and wildlife management.
