Consider this day the greatest carb celebration of the year! Today is National Bagel Day, National Pizza Day and Fat Tuesday aka Paczki Day.
Metro Detroiters sure do love their paczki. Even before opening at 3 a.m., the New Palace Bakery in Hamtramck had more than 300 orders for the sweet treat.
But, if you'd rather go savory than sweet this morning, you can celebrate the bagel.
Today, you can even get a free one. Be sure to grab a coupon for Einstein Bros Bagels. They're offering a free bagel with any purchase.
And, of course, we can't forget about pizza. There's New York Style, Chicago Style, Detroit Style, deep dish, thin crust, stuffed crust and more.
According to whatscookingamerica.net, pizza gained popularity in the 1700s in Naples, Italy, where visitors would go to poorer neighborhoods to try the dish they called "pizzaioli."
If you decide to partake in all of the celebrations, here's a look at your possible calorie consumption for the day:
1 medium 3.7 oz plain bagel: 289 calories
1 single square slice of Jet's Pizza cheese and pepperoni: 496 calories
1 paczek: (according to delish) can range from 300 to 450 calories depending on the size
In all, you're looking at around 1,235 calories to celebrate all of the food holidays today.
