We have a heartwarming update to a story that we shared on Wednesday night. Tracy Rimka's son, Michael, now has a wheelchair again!
Rimka's Jeep, with the wheelchair in it, was stolen earlier this week. Michael has epilepsy. Being on his feet too long is dangerous since he has seizures every day.
Jaclyn Kochis, who's with Michigan Paralyzed Veterans of America, saw the story and reached out to 7 Action News. She says MPVA not only helps veterans, but also people with disabilities.
We put her in touch with the Rimka family and within hours they were all meeting. Michael was given a wheelchair and they'll also be giving him a motorized wheelchair soon.
Kochis says she knew they could help him. "It makes me feel fantastic," she says.
Michael told her, "Thank you for the wheelchair."
His mom, Tracy, says she's overwhelmed with gratitude. Action News received several emails and calls from viewers wanting to help them. She says thank you to them all.
Tracy Rimka had to borrow her daughter's car to get to Michigan Paralyzed Veterans of America in Novi, but she's still hoping she'll get her Jeep back.
