CITY OF BERKLEY, Mich. (WXYZ) — The City of Berkley installed two speed displays -- one along 12 Mile Road and the other on Coolidge Highway.

Officials say the signs will encourage drivers to stay within the speed limit.

“These are not cameras to issue traffic tickets," said Lt. Jordan Kobernick. “They’re more of a friendly reminder to watch how fast you’re traveling.”

Berkley Mayor Pro Tem Steve Baker hopes to hear from residents about the new signs.

“By helping folks to be more aware of their speeds, they can make better decisions about where and how they drive,” Baker said. “Ultimately, we hope to hear from residents about where they’d like to see more of these placed in Berkley to help promote safety.”

The signs have a visibility range of 275 yards and will be fully operational in early March.
