(WXYZ) — A lawsuit has been settled with the city of Grand Rapids and a veteran who was threatened with deportation.
Jilmar Ramos-Gomez was arrested in November 2018 after allegedly setting a small fire on top of a hospital.
Following his arrest, an off-duty police captain in Grand Rapids called federal immigration authorities. The Afghanistan war veteran was held for three days.
An ACLU attorney says Ramos-Gomez's actions were the result of his PTSD.
Ramos-Gomez was awarded $190,000 in the suit. The ACLU is still in litigation with the federal government over the case.
