Cleanup work on 30 Detroit parks begins as part of Mayor Duggan's plan

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan was on hand at the ribbon cutting for the new and improved Boyer Park in southwest Detroit on Tuesday afternoon.

It was one of 10 parks to be renovated under Duggan's 40 Neighborhood Parks program launched last spring.

At the event, Duggan also announced that the second phase of the initiative is underway with work on 30 more parks beginning soon.

“These park improvements are just one of the ways we are investing in our neighborhoods for the residents who live here and to make the city more attractive to new families,” Duggan said. “Access to quality recreational opportunities is a key to the strength of any neighborhood.”

The improvements include new play equipment, a soccer field, walking paths, benches, a new half-pipe for skateboarders and a half-court basketball court.
