Bloomfield Township firefighters had a large fire to battle first thing Wednesday morning.
A mansion located on Blue Heron Court inside a gated community caught fire. The entire department was sent to battle the fire that quickly overtook the 12,000 square foot home located on Upper Long Lake.
“I saw the smoke blowing across the lake,” said Scott Monroe, a neighbor who took his boat out to get a closer look. “Yeah, I saw the helicopter so I just came out on the lake and went in front of the house. It’s a total loss, pretty sad.”
Monroe said the homes on the private lake are the type of homes you save up your entire life to buy. According to Zillow, a realty website, the home that caught fire was valued at more than $2 million.
Fire crews have not been able to relay information yet on whether anyone was inside the home, or whether anyone was injured.
A fire captain with Bloomfield Township Fire Department says he was called in to help after everyone was sent to the fire. At the time of this web posting, the entire area was being covered by a mutual aide agreement, and at least one fire call has gone out since that coverage changed hands.
As for the home that was gutted by fire, it’s quite apparent that the home is a total loss.
“You can see the whole upper stories look like they collapsed into the basement,” said Monroe, as he drove his boat around the home pointing out the damage to 7 Action News.
“It looks like they were able to save the homes on either side of it from what I can tell,” added Monroe.
