A Detroit City Council woman is pledging to do everything possible to prevent future pit bull attacks.
This comes on the heels of that vicious mauling that took the live of 4-year-old Xavier Strickland.
City councilwoman Mary Sheffield says the tragic death should serve as a wake-up call for our entire community.
When city council meets later this month, Sheffield wants to see a tougher ordinance to crack down on irresponsible dog ownership.
In addition, Sheffield says she'll support tougher jail sentences for those who abuse animals and break dog fighting laws.
