(WXYZ) — The Detroit Zoological Society's "Sunset at the Zoo" fundraiser will be a little different this year.

"Sunset for the Zoo: Bringing the Mission Home" will premiere Thursday, Sept. 17.

The virtual fundraiser will highlight animal care and rescue by the DZS.

“This is such a unique opportunity to see the incredible work of the DZS staff that is normally out of public view,” said Ron Kagan, executive director and CEO for the Detroit Zoological Society. “We are excited to bring our community inside the Zoo in such a memorable way.”

The special will be premiered here.

DZS says it has been terribly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic; revenues were cut off during the statewide shutdown and are now limited since the zoo reopened in June.

The fundraiser hopes to raise $500,000 through charitable giving and asilent auction.
