DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit's TCF Center will open to the homeless starting Nov. 16.
The Pope Francis Center, which is a day center, is relocating to the TCF Center to meet the increased demand for services, especially during the pandemic.
“We’re grateful for the opportunity to serve our guests out of the TCF Center. While we have been able to transition our services outdoors since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, these operations are not sustainable through the winter months with Michigan’s snow and bitter cold temperatures. This temporary move will allow us to continue serving Detroit’s most vulnerable population during a time when basic human resources are so vital for health and safety,” said Fr. Additionally, the City of Detroit's Housing & Revitalization Department is giving $300,000 in funding to help pay for some of the costs associated with the relocation.
