(WXYZ) — Starting today, there will be drones flying near Michigan Stadium.

But don't be alarmed. Here's what the University of Michigan Department of Public Safety wants you to know:

People may see drone activity near Michigan Stadium. The authorized flights will occur on the following dates, each of which coincides with a home football game weekend:

  • August 30
  • September 6
  • September 27
  • October 4
  • October 25
  • November 15
  • November 29

On the Fridays prior to home football games, people at or near Michigan Stadium may see a drone flying overhead. No drone activity will occur on the day of a home football game. Drones will fly along predetermined routes, and will not be flown over occupied residential buildings.

Regents’ Ordinance prohibits the operation of drones on campus. It’s unlawful to fly a drone over campus unless covered by the exceptions cited in Regents’ Ordinance Article XV, Section 5, which includes law enforcement purposes.
