PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — Michigan State Police are urging residents to stay home to stay safe after a driver slammed into a police car Saturday morning.

Around 6 a.m., troopers were police were manning a single-vehicle crash on westbound M-14 and Sheldon in Plymouth Township.

The male trooper was seated in his patrol car on the right shoulder when a 20-year-old female driver was unable to stop and hit the back of the police vehicle.

MSP says the trooper and the female driver were both taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

"Due to the amount of crashes and traffic on the roads at that time of day, additional troopers had to be called in and at times there were over twenty crashes in the district due to people driving too fast for conditions. Please Stay Home and Stay Safe. Travel only when needed," MSP tweeted.
