It has been two weeks since a distinctive looking dog vanished from the backyard of a Franklin home.

George is a 1-year-old Portuguese Water Dog who has become a member of one family with a 4-year-old son.

Since his disappearance, witnesses have seen George walking with a stranger.

“George went missing from our yard and he was spotted the same day he went missing by two neighbors and the mailman being walked by somebody else,” one witness said.

George was last seen at Wing Lake and 14 Mile. George’s family believes someone has him. He is micro-chipped and has a tag. The pure-bred dog, who looks exactly like the first family’s dog Bo, is expensive but invaluable to his family.

“The animal control guy said if he was hit by a car he would have known,” said Maggie. “But he was not hit by a car and so we do believe that he is out there.”

Since that time, the family has posted about his disappearance on social media. They say it has been shared by over a thousand people.

The family has also been passing out flyers. They have gotten a lot of support from people throughout Franklin offering help.

Lisa Weiss joined a search group Sunday as they looked for George. She brought her own dog to help.

“We are very determined,” said Lisa. “I know what I would do if I lost her, if somebody took her from me.  I would be looking high and low.”

“You get attached to the dog,” said Jimmy Eagle, who joined in the search. “They are part of the family, even more so.  And when somebody loses a dog, people go nuts.  They want their dogs back.”

The family is offering a $500 dollar reward for information that leads them to George, no questions asked.

“We love him very much and our family misses him,” said Maggie.  “I would say no hard feelings just give us our dog back.”
