FERNDALE, Mich. (WXYZ) — On Sunday, Ferndale Police positively identified a body found on July 3 as 28-year-old Lily Camara, a mother who had been missing since July 2.

Police are now investigating her death as a homicide. So far, investigators will not disclose where Camara's body was found in metro Detroit or how they believe she died.

Action News spoke to Anna 'Poppy' Goudsmit, a close family friend of Camara's, who said the mother of two was reported missing to police on July 5.

"She was last seen Tuesday night. Her phone is currently off, her car is missing," Goudsmit said.

Goudsmit said it's unlike Camara to go off the grid, especially to leave her children.

"She was a great mom," Goudsmit said.

Camara leaves behind a toddler daughter and a son, according to Goudsmit.

Sgt. Baron Brown with Ferndale Police told Action News there is no evidence to suggest a public safety threat to Ferndale residents.

"There aren't any indications that this was a random act," Brown said.

Police are still looking for her Black 2017 Ford Edge. Anyone who saw Camara or her vehicle on July 2 is asked to contact the Ferndale Police Department at 248-541-3650 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

"We want to know what happened to Lily. We need to know what happened," Goudsmit said.
