Ford World Headquarters was evacuated Monday morning after reports of smoke in the building, according to the Dearborn Police Department.

Ford representatives say the smoke came from an electrical substation in the basement of Ford World HQ.

We're told the building is now closed for the day and employees were sent home.

According to DTE, the fire reportedly happened in the basement with customer-owned electrical equipment.

DTE Energy released this statement

The fire at Ford world headquarters in Dearborn reportedly is located in customer-owned electrical equipment in the basement of the building.

At the request of Ford, DTE has cut electric supply to the headquarters complex as a safety measure. We will continue working with Ford and will provide assistance as needed.

Large facilities like the Ford world headquarters often own and operate their own on-site electrical distribution systems.
