(WXYZ) — A former girls varsity basketball coach accused of having sex with a student was sentenced to 7-15 years in prison.

Latwan Turner, 44, pleaded no contest to charges of criminal sexual conduct and gross indecency.

Turner's attorney asked for long-term probation instead of jail time, but a judge said his action were "inexcusable."

Warren police say they found the former New Haven High School coach with a 17-year-old girl back in February while patrolling a parking lot of a Red Roof Inn.

According to the Macomb County Prosecutor, the sexual encounters happened at various locations, including inside his vehicle.

The sexual misconduct charges are punishable by up to 15 years in prison, while gross indecency carries a penalty of up to five years behind bars.
