It’s a new app aimed at keeping you safe by leveraging a little help from your friends.

Google announced the launch of Trusted Contacts on its official blog.

It lets you share your location with family and friends that you choose.

The app works in a number of different ways.

First, using the app, your chosen contacts can quickly check in on your activity status to see if you’ve been offline for awhile or moved around.

If you’re feeling unsafe, you can share your location with your contacts and let them track you. A good option, if say, you want a virtual walk home at night.

There’s also an option for your contacts to request your location if they're concerned with your whereabouts. If you’re fine, Google says you can deny the request.

But, if you don’t answer in five minutes, your location is automatically shared.

Google says on its official blog that the app works even if you don’t have access to your phone or it’s offline.

The app is free and currently available for Android with an iOS version in the works.
